From taxation to the legal rights of escaped slaves, state legislatures and Congress have often been at odds. We see that continuing today with issues ranging from illegal immigration to voter ID laws. And, nearly as contentiously as those issues, with medical marijuana.

US CA: Trinity Sheriff Targets 6 Prop. 215 Grows, Says They’re

Record Searchlight, 22 Sep 2012 – The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sweep across the northern part of the county last week, targeting six sites of medical marijuana grows that, investigators said, were illegal commercial grows hiding behind Proposition 215. "There were (Prop.) 215 recommendations at all the grows," said Chris Compton, a detective with the Sheriff’s Office. "In all these places, they were growing in excess. That’s based on our opinion."

US CA: Marijuana Grow’s Environmental Damage Shocks Sheriff’s

Chico Enterprise-Record, 16 Sep 2012 – MAGALIA – Detectives were "awestruck" at the environmental damage caused by terracing of a hillside and herbicides draining into the watershed for a marijuana grow they eradicated Wednesday in Magalia. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on the 15000 block of Emma Mine Way, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release. They allegedly found 272 of the illegal plants with a weight of 4,100 pounds being disguised under Proposition 215.
