US CA: PUB LTE: Marijuana For Schools

San Francisco Chronicle, 01 Oct 2010 – I’ve heard good arguments on both sides of Prop. 19. So here’s a thought: Let’s take all the revenue generated from growing and selling marijuana and funnel it directly into the school system. That way, all our kids can have a better alternative to getting high: getting an education.

US CA: PUB LTE: The Marijuana War

The Chico News & Review, 30 Sep 2010 – Re "Pot lobbed to City Council" (Downstroke, Sept. 23): Although we commend the Chico Planning Commission for its efforts to draft an ordinance regulating the growing and distribution of medi-pot, its meeting Sept. 16 was another lesson in futility. As long as we are clouded by so much deep-rooted fear and prejudice, we can never legislate intelligently.

US CA: Editorial: Prop. 19 Too Hazy to Get Our Support

Paradise Post, 02 Oct 2010 – One of the most controversial ballot measures in the November election is Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana. The idea has been bouncing about this state for more than a few decades. The first step toward a move to legalize marijuana came in 1996 when voters approved Proposition 215, which hasn’t been the benign proposition many voters thought it to be.

US CA: OPED: Prop. 19: Voting No Is the Best Choice

The Union, 01 Oct 2010 – Proposition 19 will allow every city and county in the state to have completely different ordinances regarding growing and taxation of marijuana. It will not reduce the cost of marijuana, it will not eliminate the cartels, there is no guarantee of an increase in tax revenues, it will jeopardize safety in the workplace, and it will increase the work load for law enforcement.

US CA: Editorial: Initiative Is No Panacea for Pot Gardens’

Record Searchlight, 30 Sep 2010 – Rep. Wally Herger is still far more likely to denounce "environmental radicals" than to lead them on a ground-truthing mission in the backcountry of the Shasta-Trinity. But even if he’s no born-again tree hugger, the mess on California’s public lands caused by illegal marijuana growing is too big for him to ignore. And it’s too severe for the federal government not to make a top priority. The congressman’s continued lobbying of his House colleagues to get behind a resolution calling for a comprehensive strategy to combat illegal plantations in the national forests is a welcome crusade. The resolution itself won’t solve anything, but drawing attention to this menace that has erupted over the past decade is the first step toward marshalling the resources to curb it.

US CA: Editorial: Legalized Marijuana Measure Proposition 19

Monterey County Herald, 29 Sep 2010 – Someday, marijuana most likely will be legal in California and throughout the United States. But this is not the right time, and Proposition 19 on the Nov. 2 ballot is not the way to get there. Among other shortcomings, Proposition 19 would leave California law in conflict with federal law, leaving marijuana possession and cultivation in a legal limbo similar to the situation that medical marijuana operations find themselves in now.

US CA: Editorial: Proposition 19 Has Too Many Flaws

Los Angeles Daily News, 28 Sep 2010 – PROPOSITION 19 HAS TOO MANY FLAWS TO truly consider the merits of Proposition 19, you must check your morals at the door. Because the heart of the Nov. 2 ballot measure is not about whether marijuana is no worse than alcohol or whether the law should allow for small amounts of personal pot.

US CA: Editorial: No on 19

The Press Democrat, 28 Sep 2010 – Pot Measure Is Poorly Worded and Potentially Dangerous One of the traps that continues to ensnare California is the belief that complex problems can be resolved with simple solutions at the ballot box.

US CA: Editorial: Legal Pot a Bad Idea

San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 28 Sep 2010 – THE best way to look at Proposition 19, which would legalize the sale and possession of marijuana for adults, is to paint a picture of the state if the measure were to pass: The guy in the cubicle next to you at work is stoned. There’s an increased likelihood the driver of the car in the next lane on the freeway is under the influence of pot. Commercial entities openly selling pot in storefronts near where you shop, or perhaps in your child or grandchild’s college dormitory.

US CA: Public Can Help Shape Pot Rules

The Record, 27 Sep 2010 – STOCKTON – The public has a chance to shape rules governing how medical marijuana is distributed in San Joaquin County. The Thursday night public workshop would concern marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county and is separate from the rules for inside the Stockton city limits.
