US CA: Lawyers Challenge County’s Proposed Pot Law
Record Searchlight, 15 Jan 2013 – As some Shasta County officials are poised to move forward today with banning outdoor pot grows to curb crime and complaints from neighbors, some attorneys doubt their solution would stand up to legal scrutiny in the unstable world of medical cannabis law. The Board of Supervisors today will discuss whether to look into scratching outdoor medical marijuana grows from the county’s pot ordinance, as well as making violations of the ordinance a $1,000 misdemeanor fine instead of a $100 infraction.

Los Angeles Times, 14 Jan 2013 – SAN DIEGO – At the order of newly elected Mayor Bob Filner, the city is dropping all legal efforts aimed at forcing marijuana dispensaries out of business. In memos last week to the San Diego Police Department and code compliance officers, Filner ordered that "targeted code enforcement" against marijuana dispensaries end "immediately." Both departments report to the mayor.

Despite repeated queries, Mendocino County officials say they do not know who the target of the criminal grand jury might be — growers, users or public officials.

Los Angeles Times, 08 Jan 2013 – Angel Perales Faced Up to 30 Years, but Cooperated With the Investigation into Corruption in Cudahy. A former official in the southeast Los Angeles County city of Cudahy was sentenced to five years probation Monday – far less than the prison term prosecutors recommended – for his part in taking $17,000 in bribes from a man who wanted to open a medical marijuana dispensary.
