US CA: Column: The Marijuana Rebellion

The Desert Dispatch, 02 Oct 2012 – By the time the 21st Amendment ended national alcohol prohibition in December 1933, more than a dozen states had already opted out. Maryland never passed its own version of the Volstead Act, while New York repealed its alcohol prohibition law in 1923. Eleven other states eliminated their statutes by referendum in November 1932. We could see the beginning of a similar rebellion against marijuana prohibition this year as voters in three states – Washington, Colorado and Oregon – decide whether to legalize the drug’s production and sale for recreational use. If any of these ballot initiatives pass, it might be the most consequential election result this fall, forcing both major parties to confront an unjust, irrational policy that Americans increasingly oppose.

US CA: LTE: Some Clarity On Pot Policy

Los Angeles Times, 30 Sep 2012 – Of course our pot policy is a shambles. Medical marijuana is a shabby joke, one that provides a fig leaf for the illicit distribution of pot. During Prohibition, people who could obtain a note from their doctors were able to buy booze at drugstores.

US CA: LTE: California Can’t Decide Legality Of Marijuana

The Record, 01 Oct 2012 – California’s medical marijuana laws have been exposed as a scam. Under existing laws, no one is held accountable, while California is known as the marijuana trafficking capital of the United States. All this, made possible mostly through recommendations by California doctors and City Councils hoping to balance their budget on the backs of an illegal state law. How is that working out for you? California is not a sovereign nation. It was foolish to think any state, city or county could legalize the production, distribution and sale of marijuana without inviting the wrath of the federal government. So, here is the latest medical use of marijuana "candy weed."
