Record Searchlight, 22 Sep 2012 – The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sweep across the northern part of the county last week, targeting six sites of medical marijuana grows that, investigators said, were illegal commercial grows hiding behind Proposition 215. "There were (Prop.) 215 recommendations at all the grows," said Chris Compton, a detective with the Sheriff’s Office. "In all these places, they were growing in excess. That’s based on our opinion."
US CA: LTE: Marijuana Stems To Seediness
Glendale News-Press, 21 Sep 2012 – Legalized medicinal marijuana was a grand experiment. I voted for it. If it had been successful, other states and probably the federal government would have followed California’s lead. It has failed. I again witnessed its failure in Lower Scholl Park. Realizing that the city’s Parks and Recreations Department can no longer properly maintain parks without volunteer help, I have begun a modest routine of picking up trash two days a week at Lower Scholl. This Tuesday morning my dog and I found a pile of trash at an isolated corner of the park. It hadn’t been there when I made a sweep through this corner the previous Friday. First, I saw a cigarette butt discarded in leaves at the base of a brush-covered slope. Second, there was a small container labeled "Medicinal Cannabis." I have encountered a number of these containers at the park in recent weeks.

US CA: Column: Prohibition Of Pot Not Working
North County Times, 21 Sep 2012 – I was not surprised to hear that the city of Murrieta will not be extending the marijuana co-op ban. As Councilman Rick Gibbs pointed out to me, the way the law is structured could put the city in violation of state or federal law. While state voters in 1996 passed the Compassionate Use Act, until it syncs with federal law, I think conservative communities like ours have the ammunition to prevent them. Co-ops and dispensaries are simply sloppy ways of distribution, and ironically, government regulation such as with alcohol and tobacco would make better sense.
US CA: The New NORML?
Inland Empire Weekly, 20 Sep 2012 – The country’s oldest legalization group calls medical marijuana a "sham," alienates its own members-and sells out, critics say Say what you want about the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, it’s the first-and, for most of its existence, the only-name in cannabis legalization advocacy.
US CA: Column: Weed At Work
Sacramento News & Review, 20 Sep 2012 – I’m searching for a job and want to work for a company that is "pot friendly." For me, this would be an employer that does not drug test and would not fire me for having a medical-cannabis recommendation. I have a friend who suffered a work accident and a drug test showed THC; she was fired. So, how do I find a job where I can use my medicine and not fear discipline or dismissal? – -Matt in Davis
US CA: No Arrests After DEA Action In Mount Shasta

US CA: ‘Hearing Officers’ Chosen for Medical Marijuana Appeal
The Union, 19 Sep 2012 – The Nevada County board of supervisors approved five individuals to serve as mediators in cases where medical marijuana growers want to appeal an order from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office to abate their grow operation. The appointment will pave the way for the administrative process necessary to enforce the controversial medical marijuana ordinance, passed by the board of supervisors in May.
US CA: Complaints Fuel Medical Marijuana Compliance Checks
The Union, 19 Sep 2012 – Editor’s note: The homeowners targeted by compliance checks have not been identified, as they all are appealing their citations. It’s the height of the growing season for marijuana growers. And what traditionally is an extremely busy time for the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has become even more so this year now that the department has been tasked with conducting compliance checks to enforce the county’s new cultivation ordinance.
