San Diego Union Tribune, 06 Sep 2012 – Here we go again with the closure of the last "pot" clinic ("Last pot collective in county closes after long battle," Local, Sept. 5). What a waste of taxpayer money going after groups trying to help the ailing. It seems that we are going back in time to the era of prohibition of alcohol. Did we not learn from our mistake then? Organized crime became rampant during Prohibition and once again will heed its ugly head to the closure of the clinics through the Mexican drug cartel.
US CA: LTE: They’ve Had A Little Too Much ‘Medicine’
Chico Enterprise-Record, 04 Sep 2012 – In his report on the Butte supervisors’ discussion of the marijuana ordinance, veteran reporter Roger H. Aylworth said, "A handful of people who spoke denounced the proposed ordinance and touted cannabis as a miracle cure." Assuming Aylworth is as accurate as usual, some pot loonies have now been rendered so delusional by their toke that they imagine miracles, and ascribe curative properties to a noxious weed for diseases that have puzzled medical science for centuries. Let us return to the rules that we remember about the original legislation legalizing marijuana. Those who voted for it understood that users who could get some quack to authorize its use could grow a few (emphasize "few") plants for their own personal use. No sharing or exchange of money were to be permitted.

John Whitaker, a 52year-old Santa Clarita resident, was addressing a rally to raise awareness of cartel violence in Mexico, and he started off by apologizing to the Mexican mothers he’d just heard speak about losing children in the drug wars.

Arcata Eye, 31 Aug 2012 – HUMBOLDT — A senior environmental scientist from the state’s Department of Fish and Game (DFG) has told county supervisors that there’s a regional "gold rush mentality" but its bounty isn’t gold, it’s medical marijuana. He said unpermitted activities related to cultivation on private property are causing environmental problems.
