Ramona Sentinel, 09 Aug 2012 – A hoax orchestrated by medical marijuana advocates against their federal nemesis has set off a chain-reaction of collateral damage that includes Ramona resident Dexter Haight. The 75-year-old Navy retiree’s apparently rare name was used in the recent hoax and he isn’t happy about it. He said he has no idea why his name was chosen when he has never acted out politically or otherwise on either side of the issue.
US CA: LTE: Medi-Pot Pros And Cons
The Chico News & Review, 09 Aug 2012 – Re "A spiteful insult to voters" (Editorial, Aug. 2) and "Board gets tougher on pot" (Downstroke, Aug. 2): God bless the supervisors for showing the right stuff to help the voiceless who are not out to make big bucks by growing pot, which we all know is not for the sick as much as it is for the profit of those who will disrupt our peace.
US CA: LTE: Grow-Lights Pollution
The Chico News & Review, 09 Aug 2012 – Re "Board gets tougher on pot" (Downstroke, Aug. 2): Did the supervisors consider a light ordinance? Our next-door neighbors are very nice people keeping to themselves. They said they are growing tomatoes in a white plastic greenhouse in the middle of the forest in a residential neighborhood, and their grow lights light up the sky and the forest as if a major planet settled in with full-on lighting at 3 a.m. in the morning.
US CA: LTE: Be Like Biggs On Marijuana Growing
Chico Enterprise-Record, 09 Aug 2012 – Your Aug. 2 editorial about marijuana growing restrictions not only didn’t make any sense, it didn’t offer a solution either. You state you want the Board of Supervisors to "craft a compromise, one that protects neighborhoods … but also scaled back the more invasive parts of the previous ordinance" and that the "Supervisors should focus on constructing the most restrictive ordinance that will withstand a voter challenge."
US CA: County Certifies Signatures For Medical Marijuana Initiative
North County Times, 08 Aug 2012 – San Diego County elections workers declared Wednesday afternoon that an Encinitas medical marijuana initiative has enough valid signatures to go to a public vote. Still, city voters probably won’t see the measure until 2014 —- the next general election in Encinitas.
US CA: Sides Prepare For Complete Marijuana Collective Ban Deadline
Grunion Gazette, 08 Aug 2012 – The medical marijuana landscape in Long Beach will shift again, if just a little bit, this Sunday, when an exemption runs out and all dispensaries will be considered illegal in the city. The issue, however, is far from finished. Currently, the original Long Beach medical marijuana regulation law is before the California Supreme Court. The City Council decided earlier this year that until a decision comes from the high court, they would enact a ban ordinance, with a six-month exemption for about 18 dispensaries that had gone through the lengthy city approval process, which included a lottery.
US CA: US Attorney ACLU Clash Over Medical Marijuana Warnings
North County Times, 08 Aug 2012 – A U.S. attorney’s office opinion on a medical marijuana measure in Del Mar has led to a robust debate over whether the opinion was more of a threat than an impartial perspective. At issue is a November ballot measure that would force Del Mar to allow medical marijuana dispensaries. Voters will be deciding similar measures in Solana Beach and the East County city of Lemon Grove.
US CA: PUB LTE: Find Way To Meet Marijuana Demand
Chico Enterprise-Record, 05 Aug 2012 – The difficulty in developing a marijuana ordinance locally and statewide is due to one simple reality that is the "elephant in the room." A huge percentage of our citizens smoke marijuana daily and use it much like a glass of wine at night. They do no harm and see this as their right. They grow it, they sell it, and they buy it. It is by far Northern California’s largest agricultural industry. Nationwide, the demand is over 100 million pounds per year, and regardless of law enforcement’s best efforts this demand is being met.
