US CA: LTE: Children Will Pay A Heavy Price

San Francisco Chronicle, 29 Sep 2010 – According to recent polls, Proposition 19, the initiative legalizing marijuana for recreational use, has a chance of passing ("Marijuana legalization measure gets big lift," Sept. 26). I would like Chronicle readers to consider the many ramifications of such a change in our laws. Particularly, please consider the effects on the rearing of children.

US CA: OPED: Common Cause

Los Angeles Times, 29 Sep 2010 – Conservatism and Opposition to the Drug War Should Go Hand in Hand. For decades, the U.S. debate over drug legalization has pitted conservatives on one side against libertarians and some liberals on the other. A few conservatives have publicly opposed the drug war (e.g., National Review founder William F. Buckley Jr.), but most conservatives either endorse it or sidestep the issue.

US CA: PUB LTE: Pot Disaster Didn’t Happen

San Francisco Chronicle, 29 Sep 2010 – It’s hardly surprising that growing numbers of Californians want to legalize marijuana for adults. When Proposition 215 passed in 1996, legalizing medical marijuana, prohibition supporters issued dire warnings of increased crime, teen drug use and traffic fatalities.

US CA: Supervisors Oppose Pot Proposition

Appeal-Democrat, 29 Sep 2010 – Sutter County leaders on Tuesday reaffirmed their resistance to legalized marijuana use, coming out against a state ballot measure to decriminalize a drug involved in a tug-of-war between California and federal laws. The Board of Supervisors unanimously opposed Proposition 19, which would decriminalize the possession and transfer – but not the sale – of up to one ounce of pot for those 21 and older.

US CA: PUB LTE: Marijuana’s Social Cost

Ventura County Star, 27 Sep 2010 – Re: the Ventura County Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee’s Sept. 25 commentary "Prop. 19 a bad law for California": Sheriff Bob Brooks and his law enforcement colleagues were either wildly uninformed or intentionally dishonest when they implied that marijuana’s social cost is anywhere near that of alcohol and tobacco, both of which are far more harmful than marijuana.

US CA: Editorial: Proposition 19 Has Too Many Flaws

Los Angeles Daily News, 28 Sep 2010 – PROPOSITION 19 HAS TOO MANY FLAWS TO truly consider the merits of Proposition 19, you must check your morals at the door. Because the heart of the Nov. 2 ballot measure is not about whether marijuana is no worse than alcohol or whether the law should allow for small amounts of personal pot.

US CA: Editorial: No on 19

The Press Democrat, 28 Sep 2010 – Pot Measure Is Poorly Worded and Potentially Dangerous One of the traps that continues to ensnare California is the belief that complex problems can be resolved with simple solutions at the ballot box.

US CA: Editorial: Legal Pot a Bad Idea

San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 28 Sep 2010 – THE best way to look at Proposition 19, which would legalize the sale and possession of marijuana for adults, is to paint a picture of the state if the measure were to pass: The guy in the cubicle next to you at work is stoned. There’s an increased likelihood the driver of the car in the next lane on the freeway is under the influence of pot. Commercial entities openly selling pot in storefronts near where you shop, or perhaps in your child or grandchild’s college dormitory.

US CA: Public Support Up for Legal Pot

The Visalia Times-Delta, 28 Sep 2010 – The Tulare County seizure of more than $5 million worth of marijuana last week has added context to the debate over Proposition 19, which would legalize the drug for those 21 and older. A recent Field Poll shows that support for the legalization of marijuana is growing. About 49 percent support Proposition 19, which will be voted on Nov. 2, while 42 percent oppose it.

US CA: OPED: Redefine Cannabis Reality

Arcata Eye, 28 Sep 2010 – So you want to get into the pot business minus the arrests, jail time and constant fear? Got some extra cash? Soon your elected officials could begin to offer you help going legitimate. For those with years of experience growing and selling illegal pot and for newcomers with bank accounts and entrepreneurial spirit, Humboldt County could soon become your best grow bro. Whether or not California Proposition 19 (Tax and Control Cannabis) is passed by voters on Nov. 2, the California pot industry is undergoing structural changes with little or no centralized voice or leadership. Used to rolling their own joints, as a group the local pot industry may be less comfortable growing its own pot law.
