Chico Enterprise-Record, 08 May 2013 – OROVILLE — With some stipulations, it is legal to cultivate marijuana in the unincorporated parts of Butte County, but there are rules growers have to follow that have nothing to do with cannabis. Tuesday, County Public Works Director Mike Crump told the Board of Supervisors that since it adopted a medical marijuana cultivation ordinance, his department has had a substantial upswing in illegal grading, particularly in the foothills around Concow, Feather Falls and Magalia.

On a 4-1 vote – with Chico Supervisor Larry Wahl the lone dissenter – the board Tuesday "waived the first reading" of the ordinance. That means the measure, which limits the number of plants that can be grown based on the acreage of a parcel, will come back to the supervisors in two weeks.

Chico Enterprise-Record, 29 Aug 2012 – OROVILLE — A hearing on a proposal to regulate the growing of medical marijuana took a surprising turn Tuesday when Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said the ordinance was unconstitutional as written. Three hours later, when the hearing was over, the entire proposal was scrapped and the county was headed back to the drawing board.
