Detroit News, 18 Oct 2010 – State Gaming Control Board Provides a Good Model for Creating Regulations on Medical Marijuana For some weeks, law enforcement officials, political leaders and even a judge of the state Court of Appeals have been calling on state lawmakers to clarify Michigan’s medical marijuana law. Oakland Sheriff Michael Bouchard, one of those seeking clarification, has suggested a good model for medical marijuana law reform – the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The State News, 19 Oct 2010 – The Michigan Medical Marihuana Act, or MMMA, received 63 percent of the vote and the majority of the support of Michigan’s 83 counties back in 2008. Now, the East Lansing City Council is looking for resident input on how to deal with distributing medical marijuana to licensed patients. East Lansing residents and city officials will discuss options at a council meeting tonight. The three proposals under consideration can be implemented singularly, in combination or drafted into new proposals as warranted.

Lansing State Journal, 17 Oct 2010 – EAST LANSING — City officials want to hear from residents about three proposals for implementing the state’s Medical Marihuana Act. Each proposed ordinance allows qualifying patients and caregivers to grow marijuana for medical use, but the City Council must decide where and how the marijuana is grown and dispensed.
US MI: Medical Marijuana Ordinance Tabled
Clare County Review, 15 Oct 2010 – Once again the issue of zoning for medical marijuana patients and caregivers was tabled at the Clare City Planning Commission meeting. Clare City Attorney Jaynie Hoerauf was at the meeting with a first draft of proposed amendments to the City’s zoning ordinances. She outlined changes including the clarification of the definition of a home residence, prohibiting growing marijuana as a home occupation, dispensary business cultivation of the plant.

Huron Daily Tribune, 15 Oct 2010 – In November 2008, Huron County residents voted 8,484 to 8,319 for the state-wide proposal to legalize the use of medical marijuana. Last week, Huron County Planning commissioners made plans to possibly ban using medical marijuana within the county. While it would be easy to jump to the conclusion that the commissioners are overstepping their bounds by going against the will of county voters, state legislators have put them in a very difficult position.
US MI: SLT OKs Medical Pot Zoning Change
Grand Haven Tribune, 12 Oct 2010 – Spring Lake Township — The Township Board approved a home-occupation medical marijuana zoning text amendment Monday night. The language falls in line with the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act, which voters approved in November 2008. The state law allows the use of marijuana by qualifying patients who have a debilitating medical condition. The act also permits registered caregivers to help up to five qualifying patients to acquire and use medical marijuana.

Jackson Citizen Patriot, 10 Oct 2010 – Considering all the beating of chests about Michigan’s two-year-old medical marijuana law, it’s encouraging to see that local government and police officials are handling this issue responsibly. Police in some Michigan counties are trying to crack down on marijuana. Attorney general candidate Bill Schuette exaggerates on his website that "pot shops are literally sprouting up everywhere." An appeals court judge warns state residents to "avoid all use of marijuana if they do not wish to risk violating state law."
