The Columbian, 23 Jan 2013 – When Sandra S. Bennett finishes reviewing her studies regarding marijuana, (letter to the editor, "Dangers of pot are real," Jan. 19), perhaps she should take a look at available studies regarding the dangers of alcohol and nicotine, both of which are much more dangerous but nonetheless legal nationwide. Education about the potential dangers of any product is fine, and she is entitled to her completely unsupported opinion that "99 percent of advocates … [must be] users" and that it has nothing to do with any medical reason.

The Columbian, 25 Sep 2012 – We should absolutely not legalize marijuana in this state, but only if the opponents to this initiative will pledge to fight for the criminalization of alcohol, which does far more damage but is legal. They will not do that because Prohibition was a massive failure, as has been our decades-long "war on drugs."
