The Press Democrat, 29 Aug 2012 – A lawsuit against the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office could change the steps police officers must take before they destroy marijuana seized from people with a medical recommendation. Longtime Sonoma County resident Joseph Reiter is suing the Sheriff’s Office after deputies uprooted 119 plants he was growing in his backyard for himself and three other medical marijuana patients.
US CA: Voters May Get Repeal Of Pot Shop Ban
Los Angeles Times, 30 Aug 2012 – A referendum to repeal a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles appears to be headed for the ballot, with pot shop supporters saying Wednesday that they have collected nearly twice the signatures required to force a citywide vote and key City Council members signaling that they won’t try to stop it. On Thursday, medical cannabis supporters plan to turn in the names of 50,000 voters who want the referendum included on the March ballot. If the signatures prove valid, officials will be required to temporarily suspend the ban, which was approved with much fanfare last month and was due to go into effect Sept. 6.
US CA: County Responds To Grand Jury Marijuana Recommendations
New Times, 23 Aug 2012 – San Luis Obispo County officials have called grand jury recommendations pertaining to medical marijuana delivery services "unwarranted" and "unreasonable." In June, the San Luis Obispo County grand jury published a report detailing concerns over a lack of safe and reliable access for qualified patients of legal medicinal marijuana countywide.
