The Chico News & Review, 26 Jul 2012 – Studies Conclude Marijuana Offers Pain Relief for Various Conditions America’s most expansive studies on the medicinal benefits of marijuana have concluded pot does indeed have therapeutic value. After more than a dozen years of studies and $8.7 million in state funding, California’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research found marijuana offers pain relief for nerve damage from injuries, HIV, strokes and other conditions, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The Los Angeles City Council is plainly out of its depth when it comes to regulating medical marijuana. This was already clear after years of fumbling and court-delayed attempts to limit the number or locations of cannabis dispensaries, but it became painfully obvious Tuesday when the council approved a ban on all dispensaries – along with a separate motion to draft an ordinance that would allow well-established pot shops to stay open, partially defeating the council’s own purpose.

Medical marijuana advocates insist it’s their right to distribute their product without considering how it affects the community. Their self-righteousness sounds very much like that of the National Rifle Assn. and antiabortion activists.

Chico Enterprise-Record, 25 Jul 2012 – SACRAMENTO — Federal judges reinforced federal drug laws outlawing marijuana by dismissing lawsuits advocating for dispensaries in all four California court districts, a U.S. Department of Justice spokeswoman said Tuesday. Medical marijuana supporters sought to stop the federal government from prosecuting them but the judges upheld the Controlled Substances Act that lists the drug as schedule one, illegal, Lauren Horwood said.

Appeal-Democrat, 25 Jul 2012 – The Sutter County Board of Supervisors moved one step closer to its own medical marijuana ordinance on Tuesday, with nary a contrary view aired by a meeting attendee. Still, two supervisors voted against the ordinance on its first reading, with Supervisor James Gallagher saying he had too many concerns about unintended consequences, including how it could be seen as the county giving tacit approval to marijuana growing.
