US CA: Judge Upholds Moratorium Temporarily Closing Monterey

Monterey County Herald, 11 Oct 2010 – A judge on Friday effectively shut down any continuing operation of Monterey’s MyCaregiver medicinal-marijuana cooperative, ruling that the city’s temporary moratorium on dispensaries was legitimate. Judge Lydia Villarreal did not rule on issues regarding whether the city had zoning for dispensaries or whether MyCaregiver was required to have a business license, but granted the city’s request for summary judgment based on its moratorium.

US CA: Health Gets Lost in Pot Debate

Los Angeles Times, 10 Oct 2010 – Addiction and Other Concerns Draw Little Notice in Discussions of Legalization. In 1969, Carol McDonald was 28, married and the mother of two young children, out for an evening of fun with a couple who smoked marijuana. By the end of the evening she was on her way to a 19-year addiction.

US CA: PUB LTE: End Prohibition

Merced Sun-Star, 08 Oct 2010 – Editor: Prohibition is the most dangerous thing about pot. When was the last time you heard about a shootout over booze, saw a kid buy alcohol from a street vendor or heard of moonshiners cooking brew in the hills?

US CA: PUB LTE: War On Pot

Pasadena Weekly, 07 Oct 2010 – The drug war is largely a war on marijuana smokers. In 2008, there were 847,863 marijuana arrests in the U.S., almost 90 percent for simple possession. At a time when state and local governments are laying off police, firefighters and teachers, this country continues to spend enormous public resources criminalizing Americans who prefer marijuana to martinis. The end result of this ongoing culture war is not necessarily lower rates of use. The US has higher rates of marijuana use than the Netherlands, where marijuana is legally available. Decriminalization is a long overdue step in the right direction. Taxing and regulating marijuana would render the drug war obsolete. As long as organized crime controls distribution, marijuana consumers will come into contact with sellers of hard drugs like methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin. This "gateway" is a direct result of marijuana prohibition.

US CA: Editorial: Just Say ‘No’ To Faulty Prop. 19

The Times-Herald, 10 Oct 2010 – Like so many others in California, we’ve heard — and listened to — all the arguments for legalizing marijuana. We even agree that some have merit. Proposition 19, however, is another matter. The controversial Nov. 2 measure, which would legalize limited personal cultivation and use of marijuana and allow local governments to authorize and regulate commercial enterprises, is a certified mess.

US CA: PUB LTE: God Said All Plants Are Good – Including

The Union, 09 Oct 2010 – Isn’t it kind of an oxymoron trying to combine "facts" with attempting to perpetuate the discredited prohibition of cannabis (marijuana) since that prohibition is thoroughly entrenched in lies, half-truths and propaganda (‘Just the Facts’ Panelists: Don’t Legalize Pot, Sept. 24, 2010)? Fact is, a reason to re-legalize cannabis that doesn’t get mentioned is because it is Biblically correct since Christ God Our Father indicates He created all the seed bearing plants, saying they are all good, on literally the very first page (see Genesis 1:11-12 and 29-30). The only Biblical restriction placed on cannabis is that it be accepted with thankfulness (see 1 Timothy 4:1-5).

US CA: Edu: County Starts Regulating Medical Marijuana

City on a Hill Press, 07 Oct 2010 – Laws and attitudes toward marijuana are changing throughout the state, and Santa Cruz is no exception. The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors formally expressed a policy Sept. 26, which addresses medical marijuana dispensaries that have sprung up in past years. The policy allows and regulates the facilities, as well as places a moratorium on new medical marijuana dispensaries until the board finalizes the new policies.

US CA: Festival Celebrates Marijuana Harvest

Record Searchlight, 06 Oct 2010 – If you’re looking for a family-friendly way to celebrate autumn, the first Harvest Fest isn’t for you. The 18-and-up event, to be put on by The Darkside & Tattooing in Redding, will celebrate the marijuana harvest with live music, jugglers, arts and crafts classes, and the Cannabis Cup, where judges will rate local growers’ marijuana plants.

US CA: PUB LTE: Grandmother’s Experience With Cancer Is A

The Union, 09 Oct 2010 – J. Crouch accuses those who believe marijuana has medical benefits of "not facing reality." Do you understand what "reality" is Crouch ? When my grandmother was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of cancer she had to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. It made her even more sick and, having lost her appetite, she grew much weaker. She was given morphine for pain, which made her even sicker. She had never used drugs in her life, but decided to see if marijuana could help.

US CA: PUB LTE: Forum Was Propaganda Panel Against Proposition

The Union, 09 Oct 2010 – As a voter in favor of Proposition 19, I attended the forum on "Just the Facts," sponsored by a Drug-Free Nevada County and the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce. The entire seven-member panel were advocates against Proposition 19. In other words it was a propaganda panel, i.e., working for the idea of maintaining the status quo by defeating Proposition 19. With a little effort perhaps the sponsors could have had at least one spokesperson on the panel from say NORMAL (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) or LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition). If they had, some of the following facts might have been mentioned: "California, despite having the freest medical marijuana regime in the nation, ranks 18th among states in marijuana use and boasts a highway fatality rate well below the national average." (Dale Gieringer, Sacramento Bee, Aug. 2).
