US CO: PUB LTE: War On Drugs
Pueblo Chieftain, 16 Sep 2012 – The first volley has been fired in the war between the Mexican drug cartel’s drug machine and American’s safety and freedom. Tally up Colorado’s first known deaths attributed to the prohibition of marijuana. Though no shots were fired, the deaths of retired Pueblo Police Capt. John A. Barger and Pueblo County Sheriff Capt. Leide William DeFusco, can be directly linked to the Mexican drug cartel. While flying over Pueblo County looking for other cartel illegal grows, these gentlemen sacrificed their lives trying to make sure we were safe from these criminals.

US CO: PUB LTE: Condoning Pot Use, Protecting Children Different
Fort Collins Coloradoan, 13 Sep 2012 – Regarding Nicholas Lieurance’s Sept. 10 op-ed, there is a big difference between condoning marijuana use and protecting children from drugs. Decriminalization acknowledges the social reality of marijuana and frees users from the stigma of life-shattering criminal records. What’s really needed is a regulated market with age controls as provided for by Amendment 64. Separating the hard and soft drug markets is critical. As long as organized crime controls marijuana distribution, consumers will continue to come into contact with sellers of hard drugs like cocaine and heroin. This "gateway" is a direct result of marijuana prohibition. Drug policy reform may send the wrong message to children, but I like to think the children are more important than the message.

US CO: Edu: OPED: War On Drugs Wages Pointless Battles, Needs
The Scribe, 10 Sep 2012 – When I was younger, my parents and a lot of my teachers told me that drugs were bad. Their warnings conjured up images of drug-dealing kingpins from action movies. I thought marijuana was a really horrible drug to use. The news offered stories of kids getting busted for smoking pot, and I thought that drug use always ended in a police arrest.
