The licensed substance-abuse-prevention expert said butane hash oil contains up to 80 percent to 90 percent tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the high-inducing compound found in marijuana. Livingston County teens have not overlooked the new form of substance abuse, Bergbower said.
US MI: Ypsilanti Residents Concerned As Council Rejects
Ypsilanti Courier, 05 Jun 2013 – Ypsilanti will not impose an emergency moratorium against new medical marijuana dispensaries and grow facilities, despite pleas from several residents to consider the ordinance. "All of these drugs right now are tearing up our community," said Ypsilanti resident Brian Foley, who has lived in the city for 53 years. "I’m a recovering addict. I know the pain of addiction and we have a lot of pain on my side of town. I’m a lifelong resident of Ypsilanti. I don’t want my city to be known as the dope capital of the midwest."
US MI: Moratorium on Medical Marijuana Facilities
Ypsilanti Courier, 04 Jun 2013 – YPSILANTI – After delaying its initial decision, the Ypsilanti City Council will revisit an emergency ordinance to place a 60-day moratorium on permits and licenses for medical marijuana facilities at Tuesday night’s meeting. City attorney John Barr recommended an emergency ordinance after the idea of a moratorium on medical marijuana facilities was proposed in March by Mayor Pro Tem Lois Richardson and Councilmember Ricky Jefferson. The two cited over-saturation of medical marijuana facilities in the city as the reason for the moratorium, and said that they had received complaints from residents.

Traverse City Record-Eagle, 30 May 2013 – TRAVERSE CITY — Local authorities dropped criminal charges against a Williamsburg man whose 2010 arrest spurred statewide changes for medical marijuana patients who drive with the drug in their system. Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney on Thursday formally dismissed operating while intoxicated charges against Rodney Koon, 51, following a Michigan Supreme Court decision this month. The court’s ruling effectively dismantled a state law that dictated a "zero tolerance" approach to medical marijuana users like Koon.

Michigan Daily, 29 May 2013 – The use of medical marijuana as a pain reliever has long been of high interest to activists, scientists and policymakers. Appealing to these interests, a new study at the University will work to determine the exact benefits medical marijuana may offer to those who suffer from various medical afflictions. Michigan, which legalized medical marijuana in 2008, has 135,267 patients registered to buy and use the drug, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. The state is one of the 18, along with Washington D.C., to have legalized medical marijuana.
