US WA: LTE: Initiative Based On Many Myths

The Herald, 26 Sep 2012 – Voters really need to consider the potential consequences of legalizing marijuana. The present initiative relies on uneducated voters to pass it based on several misconceptions. First is that Washington will have a windfall of new tax revenue. This assumes that the tens of thousands of the people who possess and grow legal medical marijuana (up to 15 plants) will stop growing it. It assumes that all of the illegal marijuana dealers will also stop and not attempt to compete with legal sales.

US WA: Uncertainty Clouds Debate Over Marijuana Legalization Measure

Issaquah Press, 25 Sep 2012 – GreenLink Collective, a medical marijuana operation along Northwest Gilman Boulevard, reshaped attitudes and policies about marijuana in Issaquah last year, as patients and officials engaged in a long debate about access to a drug banned under federal law. In November, Washington voters could further redraw the battle lines in the marijuana debate. Initiative 502 aims to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana for recreational users. The proposal goes a step beyond a 1998 measure to legalize medical marijuana in Washington and could set a national precedent.

US WA: PUB LTE: Recreationally, Little Disparity

The Columbian, 25 Sep 2012 – We should absolutely not legalize marijuana in this state, but only if the opponents to this initiative will pledge to fight for the criminalization of alcohol, which does far more damage but is legal. They will not do that because Prohibition was a massive failure, as has been our decades-long "war on drugs."

US WA: If Pot Passes, Then What?

The Herald, 24 Sep 2012 – With Federal Law Making Possession, Growing or Selling of Marijuana Illegal, It’s Likely the Government Will Take Action. If Washington voters approve an initiative legalizing marijuana in November it will set national precedent, ending the decades-long era of drug busts and prosecutions for possessing limited amounts of the drug.

US WA: Column: Drug Dealers Protecting Their Turf

The Herald, 23 Sep 2012 – If you heard a drug dealer denigrate his competitor’s product as unsafe, would you trust his criticism? Or would you think he’s a hypocrite with ulterior motives? Last week, thanks to Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper (CO), these became the central political questions in the fight over whether to continue America’s destructive War on Marijuana. The frontline in that war is Colorado, where the federal government has interfered with its system of state-regulated medical marijuana businesses, despite President Obama’s promise to refrain from doing so. Countering that crackdown is a 2012 ballot initiative that would make Colorado the first state to fully legalize marijuana and regulate it like alcohol.
