Men and women suffering from conditions like cancer, hepatitis C and AIDS are still waiting on Michigan legislatures to take the guesswork out of the law so they can get the relief they need. The Michigan Medical Marijuana Program is a state registry program administered by the Michigan Department of Community Health. The act provides for the afflicted person or a "designated caregiver" to grow up to 12 marijuana plants. A registered caregiver can provide the potent plant to up to five qualifying patients.

That’s the result of a straw poll taken in advance of a formal vote expected next month. Michigan voters in 2008 authorized use of the drug for medicinal purposes and communities around the state now are drafting local regulations. Wyoming staff have proposed guidelines, but the city’s Planning Commission now appears to be leaning toward a ban.
