The Trentonian, 31 May 2013 – WEST WINDSOR – Medical marijuana may be legal to prescribe in New Jersey, but virtually impossible to get. The law allowing seriously ill patients access to prescription marijuana was enacted by Governor John Corzine in 2010, and in 2012 the Medical Marijuana Registry opened to great fanfare. However, according to local doctors, patients who desperately need the drug are unable to get it through legal means and are instead turning to street dealers for easier access.
US NJ: Up In Smoke
Union City Reporter, 02 Jun 2013 – HARD TO GET — Patients are waiting a year or more to get marijuana for medical purposes. Some can’t get it at all. "At this point, I’ve given up. I’ve given up any hope of getting help from the state through legal channels. I’ll just get what my wife needs illegally."
US NJ: Medical Marijuana Is No Bar To Transplants In Bill
The Philadelphia Inquirer, 24 May 2013 – The New Jersey Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a bill that would prevent medical-marijuana patients from being disqualified for receiving organ transplants because they are using a drug that historically was deemed illegal. The bill would make sure hospitals and doctors don’t "exclude people who are otherwise eligible for organ transplants" just because they use medical marijuana, said Assemblyman Peter J. Barnes (D., Middlesex), a prime sponsor.
US NJ: PUB LTE: Drug Prohibition Is the Problem
The Record, 17 May 2013 – Regarding "Suburbia’s deadly secret" (Page A-1, May 5): How many more young adults and kids must die before we relearn the lesson that our nation painfully learned between 1920 and 1933? Prohibition doesn’t work, it can’t work and it will never work.
US NJ: PUB LTE: Show Our Children It’s A Free Country
The Times, 19 May 2013 – I write in response to New Jersey Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini’s guest opinion "Legalizing marijuana would send the wrong message to kids" (May 13). I’d like readers to consider what message we send to children when we allow tobacco, alcohol and a long list of potentially unhealthy foods to be legally sold to adults.
US NJ: PUB LTE: No Compassion Involved In Nj Marijuana Law
Burlington County Times, 15 May 2013 – I have a story that might, these days, evoke a small bubble of annoyance, a tiny percussion of pique at the callousness of public officials. The word "compassionate" is being bandied about with great vigor in New Jersey. The state passed its Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act. Well, it wasn’t just passed. It was passed in 2010. We’re just now getting around to actualizing our compassion. Well, some of it.
