US CA: California: Council Bans Marijuana Dispensaries

New York Times, 25 Jul 2012 – The Los Angeles City Council voted on Tuesday to ban the hundreds of medical marijuana dispensaries that have cropped up across the city. The council acted after some residents said the shops had been a blight on neighborhoods. City officials estimate that there could be more than 900 dispensaries. The ban eliminates storefronts, but patients and caregivers are still allowed to grow medical marijuana. Has your neighbor recently extended the height of the fence between your yards? Could be a little marijuana paranoia going on there. It may be legal to grow a certain amount of the plant in your back yard for medical reasons if you have a prescription; operative word is prescription. Of course those growing all profess to have a permit or prescription, but that paperwork has to be displayed and the majority don’t. Question your neighbor about the legality of his newly acquired green thumb and you can pretty much tell by the defensive attitude whether it is being grown legally, the immediate additional fence height is a pretty good hint that they aren’t.

After more than a dozen years of studies and $8.7 million in state funding, California’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research found marijuana offers pain relief for nerve damage from injuries, HIV, strokes and other conditions, according to The Sacramento Bee.
